Over the past few months, I`ve been seeing and hearing about quite a few tattooers "leaving " the industry, or getting "real" jobs to pay the bills. Though I do feel for them, and I understand that the choice of being a tattooer can sometimes financially be stressful, I myself could just not IMAGINE a life where I don`t make tattoos.

I do feel that a strong reason for the uptick of tattooers not making enough $, and struggling, is not for a lack of clients. Its not for a lack of opportunity, its for the simple fact that most tattooers just want to show off, and be one-trick- ponies. They only want to do "their style" or the look that they prefer. I get it. Don`t we all?!? But when you`re not paying the bills, and your silly little Instagram and TikTok algorithm isn`t feeding your ego, what then?!? You`ve already alienated clients that have come and gone, thinking that you`re too cool or too good for the little, simple tattoo. The hack shop up the street full of twenty something fine-line tattoo girls are pumping out micro trash, but they`re busy because they`re cute and nice.

Guess what?!? Those clients could have been yours. You could have used your years of knowledge, expertise, and know-how, to lead those clients to better choices, smarter imagery, or hell, just give em what they want! Give them that micro tattoo. Pay those bills, but do so with integrity. Warn them of what its gonna look like. Advise them on better placement. Do your job as a tattooer! Don`t expect everyone that walks in to want what YOU want to tattoo on them.

BE A TATTOO MAN! Provide a service, with a smile, a good time, and integrity. Take pride in your work, how you look, how your shop looks, and be an honest, hard working artist. If you give up on tattooing, don`t come back. You weren`t here for the right reasons in the 1st place.

If you are good to tattooing , tattooing will be good to you.

Plain and simple.
